Attention single ladies of Iowa City still looking for a last minute Valentine. Meet Zach Gagne, a junior at the University of Iowa, who has been searching for his perfect Valentine all year. Being good friends with Zach, and knowing his younger sister who also goes here, we know first hand Zach’s views on scummy guys. He doesn’t tolerate them. He would kill any guy that would treat his sister or any girl poorly. So if you’re a girl who is looking for a guy to always back you up, Zach won’t disappoint you. Some of his answers may make him seem like a tough guy, but you’ll see he has a pretty big soft side.
Us: What is your major?
Zach: Sociology with a minor in journalism.
Us: What is your dream job?
Zach: Roller-coaster/water slide tester or a writer for Sports Illustrated.
Us: Describe your perfect girl.
Zach: My perfect girl is someone who puts me before Justin Bieber and Ryan Gosling. If we are hanging out and The Notebook is on TV she’ll skip over it for a Bulls game. She HAS to be a dog person. She has to be able to keep up at bars because let’s face it; I have a hard enough time taking care of myself when I’m drunk. The most important factors are a good sense of humor, confidence, being trustworthy, and if she can sing, that’s pretty sexy.
Us: Describe your perfect Valentines Day date.
Zach: My perfect Valentines Day date would be something like this, an exchange of some cheap gifts, and then I’m thinking we would get dinner at Gene n’ Judes or Portillo’s. Following that with a movie is too cliché so we would go play laser tag to end a perfect date.
Us: What is your favorite romantic comedy?
Zach: I’m speaking fact when I say this; She’s Out of My League is by far the best romantic comedy of all time.
Us: What are your ideal gifts to give and receive on V-day?
Zach: Hmm when I give a gift on V-day, of course I’ll give some flowers and chocolate then the final gift would probably be yoga pants (A gift for myself as well). What I look to receive from my girl on V-day isn’t much. Something cheap would work for me. I’m not picky.
Us: How would you approach a pretty girl at a bar?
Zach: Approaching a girl at a bar is very difficult; usually I just make a fool of myself by proposing to her or something stupid. If they laugh, I consider it successful.
Us: What do you find impressive in a girl?
Zach: When they’re on time.
Us: Where could we find you on weekends in IC?
Zach: If I’m not at Brothers that probably means someone kidnapped me, so stop in and say hi! I’ll be there.
Us: Who is your celeb crush?
Zach: Mila Kunis because she’s smoking hot. I also have a soft spot for Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) from Modern Family.
So if you’re free tonight and in the mood for a romantic comedy, laser tag, and countless amounts of chocolates, slip on some yoga pants and head to Brothers- it is Taco Tuesday so we are sure Zach will be there. It doesn’t take just any girl to be with Zach. If you think you can keep up with the tequila shots until you get a proposal out of him, we believe you’ve just met your match!
